Mykonos, is one of the most beautiful Island in Cyclades, “Mikonos”, is one of the most popular tourist island in the Mediterranean and the entire Greece for the last six decades. Meeting point and trademark on the island–Mikonos, are the windmills, which stands proudly for centuries in a low hill near the port.
Although it is a small and barren, this island is endowed with golden beaches crystal clear waters, in a beautiful position with impressive architecture and of course friendly people and magical nights of entertainment.
With dominant element the white color of the houses and the grey stone, in combination with the touch of the wind and the smell of the sea, Mykonos carry a centuries old culture and succeeds to remain indelible in every visitor’s memory.
Chora, as the town of Mykonos is commonly known, always impresses at first sight. Despite the great tourist development of the island, it has managed to maintain most of the Cycladic features and the traditional look.
Crossing the narrow alleys and streets, a lot of shops with designer clothing brands, elegant jewelry and works of art designed by the most famous designers and artists, can be found. Frequently encounter important personalities from all over the world in the countless bars and restaurants on the island, and this is another reason that makes the island of Mykonos so famous.
Mykonos, which is part of a cluster of islands including Delos, Rhenia and some rocky islets, all bathed in the clear sunlight sent by God Apollo, awakens the visitor a unique feeling of adventure of ancient and modern Greece.
So, starting from the Chora of Mikonos, the first beach we meet is near the port. It’s preferred by many tourists because of its easy and quick access.
However, the Paradise beach in Kalamopodi is equally popular. This large and crowed beach has coarse sand and reed umbrellas for natural shadow. It’s located in the southern part of the island. It has a lot of souvenir shops, restaurants and internet connection points as well as many hotels and rooms to let. This great beach is truly an earthly paradise.
Mykonos super paradise, is the most famous beach on the island because of the parties. Youth attraction but can also have fun those who feel young! From the 1950 until today, Super Paradise has been established as the celebrities and VIPs top meeting place. So, if you see someone that you admire sitting next to you, don’t be surprised.
The only way to reach the beach is by boat from Platis Gialos.
Platis Gialos is also one of the most crowded beaches of Mikonos. It has beautiful sandy beach organized with umbrellas and sun beds. Surrounded by many hotels for every taste, Platis Gialos is the place that you can find, except of singles and couples, a lot of families with their children.
If you want a beach for organized camping we strongly suggest Paraga beach. There are two camping sites in that area with facilities of electricity and water, mini market and restaurants and free transfer by bus to and from the port. Frequently local bus service there is also provided. Paraga beach is a small but excellent beach with beautiful view of Dilos.
Fokos on the other hand is a sunny peaceful beach for relaxation and seclusion. Right after the second dam of Mykonos. If you decide to go there, don’t try to find signal from a service provider for your mobile, is pointless.
In stark contrast to Fokos beach, 4kilometers from Chora, located the psarou beach. Water sports, scuba diving in combination with wonderful emerald waters this beach is the VIPs’ favorite beach. Fully organized can meet the needs of the most demanding visitor.
If you ask for an advice, we recommend you to search and find the beach that will become your favorite since there still plenty for every one of you in this unbelievable island.
The night clubs of Mykonos are so many and so different one from another, which undoubtedly will get your attention. There are no strict rules of dress code. Mykonos is also a gay-friendly island especially during the summer time. So, a lot of gay bars are all over to be found.
For the first drink we suggest you the Alefkandra’s bar and the bars of the Little Venice in order to enjoy the beautiful sunset from the wooden balconies. The area of the Little Venice is the most famous point of the island. Visit as many bars as you can. Enjoy the different kind of music, dance with Greek and foreign music hits in the biggest clubs of Mikonos. If you prefer the Greek live music, the Greek bouzoukia are open until late.
If you feel hungry don’t forget to try the traditional Greek food, such as Souvlaki and greek salad. Try also the Spetsofai, which is traditional Myconian food, and many others like Louza, Myconian Carpaccio with pasta and many different type of cheese.
For those who are looking for something more, we strongly suggest to visit the Archeological museum of Mykonos and the ancient city of Dilos. You will be amazed!
