In 1862, the Prince of Wales had gone for a 4-month educational “tour” in the Middle_East, accompanied by the photographer Francis Bedford.

Bedford, was the first photographer who traveled to the royal tour and followed the route of the Prince in Egypt, Palestine, the Holy Land, Lebanon, Turkey and Greece.

After the returning of the royal “mission” back to England, the project of Francis Bedford described as “the most important photographic exhibition that has been presented to the public, so far.”
